It's national Bike to Work week. If you plan to participate, enjoy the cash savings (holy cow, is that really the price of gas), the fitness boost and the fresh air. But, also be safe.
Be prepared and be alert. A few common sense bike safety tips include, ride predictably, be defensive at intersections, use lights, obey all traffic signals, wear a helmet and avoid the door zone.
And, think about security for your bike while you're working:
- Do not use cable locks. Choose the highest quality lock you can afford.
- Lock your bike to a secure, fixed object.
- Lock your bike in a well-lit, high traffic areas.
- If possible, lock your bike inside.
Have fun, be safe, be secure!
