IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR CITY OF SEATTLE CUSTOMERS. NEW ORDINANCE REQUIREMENTS

Attention Seattle residents and business owners,

Starting October 1, 2024, the Seattle Police Department (SPD) will implement changes to how they respond to residential and commercial burglary alarms. Their letter states that these changes are designed to help prioritize emergency responses for violent in-progress incidents, which is essential for the safety of our community.

Key Changes:

SPD will only dispatch officers to alarm calls from monitoring companies that provide supporting evidence of criminal activity, such as:

  • Audio or video verification

  • Panic alarms

  • Eyewitness accounts of illegal entry or attempted entry

SPD will no longer respond to calls triggered solely by sensor or motion activations, as over 96% of these alarms are found to be false due to equipment issues or human error.

Per their letter, this change is vital to ensure officers are available for higher-priority, potentially life-threatening situations.
